When I think back, I have to admit that my ideas for learning to build things and grow things, began for me as a chid. I was quite influenced by our times, and a pervasive idea that society as we knew it wouldn't last mush longer. Nowhere was this better portrayed than in the Sci-fi movies of the time. One of the most memorable to me was the THE QUIET EARTH.
An indelible impression was left on my mind as I watched the protagonist scrounge through empty city shops for food and supplies; if this happened, it'd be good to know how to grow stuff! And so an idea began to grow, that really didn't begin to take form until my three children were almost grown and gone, and our family moved from the city to the country. Not deep into the country mind you. Just 20 minutes outside, and only 15 minutes to another smaller city, and most importantly only 10 to the closest Dairy Queen! We've been on our acreage now for eight years, (as of 2014), and I have been loving it.
