The fact that we have dogs may not seem like a big deal, but I am not a dog person. I am a cat person and we have had our cat Cherry for 13 years now. She is friendly, but not too friendly. She is cuddly, but not too cuddly. She is very low maintenance, and our interaction occurs mostly in the morning when she comes in to my room for a bit of a cuddle before I get up. Then we're mostly done for the day. Easy!
For several years now, I've been mad with the idea of getting chickens. I've been doing all kinds of research on them, reading all kinds of books, scouring the internet, visiting friends who have chickens, and I've taken a day class at a near by agricultural school on raising chickens. But our field of grass had been growing unattended for several years, as we didn't have the equipment to mow, nor the will to put in that much effort. The wild willow shrubs were starting to take over, and the general overgrowth of trees and brush along the water's edge was threatening to block the view from sight.
