Welcome to my web/blog site. This site is dedicated to sharing about living in the country, learning how to build a farm, raising sheep and chickens, training livestock guardian dogs, gardening both flowers and vegetables, doing various types of carpentry and art projects from spinning wool, quilting, paper mâché to furniture building.
Having animals is a new experience for me. As a kid, I had a pet rabbit that we kept outside, so even pets were not a big part of my world. I'm a city slicker. I wasn't raised on a farm, nor did I visit farms very often. When I did, they just seemed smelly and gross, not to mention that animals were just kind of frightening. I had no idea what to expect from them. It wasn't until just a couple of years ago that all this started to change. I was visiting friends who had turned their acreage into a farm. They had chickens, and goats and cows, ducks and dogs and sheep. Only the pigs were penned up. The rest were free range. It was their little girls who showed me that I didn't have to be afraid. They just took me around by the hand, and introduced me to the world of farm animals. They all bravely jumped into the pig pen to feed them their slop, handed me a stick, and said, "If they come near you, just hit them on the snout". You know... easy!
I'm thinking that many of you may not have had much exposure to farm life either, so let me take you by the hand, and share with you my journey of discovery into this natural world, so lost to most city folk.
